We are excited to introduce to home gardeners and large acreage growers our hard, winter type squash named Argonaut F1.

This squash originated in the sunny southern part of Greece close to the Mediterranean Sea. Those who have eaten this squash have commented that it has a delightful "sweet as honey" flavor. It has a high bright color and a long shelf life of up to 6 months. It has been tested with sugar levels as high as 13%.

The Argonaut F1 squash is a wonderful addition to a healthy diet!

Squash is Nature’s No. 1 vegetable in vitamin "A", 4,000 I.U. per serving. Protein is 1.5 grams. It is low in calories, 44 per 100 grams. Squash contains minerals galore; Calcium 19 Mg., Ascorbic Acid 5 Mg., Thiamin 0.048 Mg., Riboflavin 0.046 Mg., and Niacin 0.96 Mg.

 

For a number of years we produced and sold this squash commercially throughout the United States. We received many positive and encouaging comments from our customers. We are now concentrating on producing seed for resale to home gardeners so they can enjoy this unbelieveably sweet squash. The Argonaut is extremely easy to grow. It will even grow and produce squash in the tough ground of Tucson, Arizona. Planting should begin after the last frost. The warmer the conditions the better. It takes approximately 140 days from planting to maturity. The shelf life of the squash is outstanding. If you store it in a cool dry spot in your house, it will stay for up to 6 months. The Argonaut F1 is practically insect free!

 

Here are a couple of our delicious and easy recipes to try:

 

Baked Squash

Cut squash into desired pieces, ½ inch thick placed on a cookie sheet or any suitable oven pan. Butter, salt if desired, optional: brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon. Bake in oven at 350 degrees until fork tender. You may cook this squash by steaming on the stovetop or in the microwave.

 

Squash-N-Apple Bake

6 Servings

½ cup butter or margarine

½ cup brown sugar

1/3 cup coarsely chopped nuts

1 tsp. Cinnamon

4 cups diced or sliced winter squash

2 cups diced or sliced apples, do not peel

1 cup small marshmallows

 

In a small bowl, blend butter or margarine with sugar, nuts and cinnamon. Place in a 2-quart casserole dish (brush with butter or spray with a cooking spray) and layer squash, apple and ½ of the butter mixture. Repeat then spread rest of butter mixture over squash ‘n apples. Sprinkle nuts and marshmallows. Bake in a 350-degree oven 30-45 minutes. Ready when fork tender.
